| tire is better. If you are willing to sacrifice tire noise and ride stiffness for adhesion and grip; then by all means go in that direction. However, I think too often people just buy into a tire because of the grip-factor. If I want grip factor I simply look at the UTOG number and find something below 180. IMO, how the car behaves over bumps and tar strips is more important that if it can pull 1.5g's on a test track. I bought a set of General UHP which TireRack ranks number one in comfort for ultra high performance summer tires, yet still ranks within the top five on the other performance categories like wet/dry grip, etc. I'm getting too old to get beaten up by my cars. Tire technologies have advanced so much in the last twenty years, no one should need to sacrifice civility for that last few ounces of performance. Over irregular road surfaces, the tire is much more compliant and hooks up even better than some tires w/ stiffer sidewalls. No I wouldnt use them for track or AutoX duty. Yet driving around everyday, they provide 95% of the performance I could ever use, while being much easier to live with on a day to day basis.
